Hollister Hills Work Day 2010 |
|
Hollister Hills MTA has enjoyed a long relationship with Hollister Hills SVRA. This is where we have held our event, Mud N Yer Eye Frolic, for the past 34 years, so it’s very important to us to lend a hand when there is a need. As a club, MTA has done many projects in and around upper ranch, mostly in Area 5. Projects that MTA has accomplished in the past are: building of the stage, pouring of the concrete pad in front of stage, building the BBQ pit, table and sink area. Power was also brought into area 5 with the help of MTA. At the end of last year the Hollister Hills Off Road Association (HHORA) approached MTA about becoming a member of their Board of Directors. We jumped at the chance to be involved with HHORA and hope to build a long lasting relationship with them for the future. HHORA has a great relationship with HH Parks and we are excited with the opportunity to add our input on how the park is shaped for the future. This past weekend (March 27 & 28) MTA had an opportunity to work with HH Parks Trail Crew to add some new features to the old obstacle course area. The HH Parks Trail Crew approached MTA to give them some input to design a new obstacle. Once again the MTA was more than happy to lend a hand, to be honest we were VERY excited to have a chance to work so closely with HH Park. So the call went out and we were able to get several people from the club to come out and help. Scott S. had taken some time and drew up plans as to what we wanted to accomplish. This was a huge help in keeping everyone focused on what needed to be accomplished. As well as making new features in the obstacle course, we also identified areas that have to be reclaimed as greenbelt. This will help to bring back the natural vegetation and plant life to the area. The MTA is very happy to have the chance to work so closely with HH SVRA to help to keep the trail open and make the park a great place to wheel. Tony Bosso Secretary MTA |

"How much air is to much" MTA's Frolic Pre run 2010 |
|
|
Rain. Its part of life and something we have to deal with every now and then while out on the trail. This was the case for the First pre-run for frolic 2010 at Hollister Hills. We had decided on the date about a month prior, so we had no idea how the weather would be. But knowing that work had to be done for Frolic we gave up our Saturday and headed out for the day to wheel during and camp at night in the cold rain. Ok Truth be told we all just really wanted to hang out and have a relaxing night by the camp fire with a beer, but I have to make it sound like we suffered a little. Hollister was a mucky mess most everywhere we went, so needless to say we got very little done out on trail other than a recovery or two (not us). We decided to head back to camp and call it a day. After getting back to camp we had a heck of a time getting a fire started because the wood was wet. We did get a small fire going but after a small distraction assisting Spencer getting his trailer un-stuck our fire was nearly out upon our return. Scott was spliting wood and trying to get what was dry to catch. I took my hat and started to fan the flames. Scott followed with a paper plate. After a couple of minutes of watching us Bret says "how much air is to much? " which I replied "when the fire goes out". Then after about another 30 seconds or so Bret askes again "how much air is to much?". Again I said "When the fire goes out". At that moment Bret Face lit up and I saw the light bulb glowing brightly above his head. He ran around jumped in the 40, fired it up and dove it over by the camp fire. As he backed up he said "I got a compressor!" and out came the hose. He hooked up his air gun to the hose and BAM we had ourselves a bellow... After about 5 minutes of steady "air flow" the the fire we were very happy and warm. IT was a very good idea.. I know this is not the first time someone has thought of this, But that night we sure were glad Bret's light bulb went off. Tony Bosso MTA |

 Toys For Tots 2009
Each year the Mountain Transit Authority (MTA) has a Toys for Tots run. This is only one of the many ways MTA gives back to the community. It is also fun because it’s a way for all of us to gettogether outside of the normal wheeling experience. We normally meet early in the morning for breakfast before heading out in a caravan to drop off the toys. This year we met at Pete’s family restaurant. This would be out starting point to head out to Christmas in the park in downtown, San Jose. The MARINES, who are in charge of the Toys for Tots program, open up a drive-thru lane to drop off the toys. This lane normally fits our entire line of trucks, which is also good for photos. Unfortunately I could not make it for breakfast that morning, so I was to be there before our 9:00am staging time to pass out the toys. I underestimated how many toys I had to bring in my truck and with a new edition to our family this year there was no way we were all going to fit. We decided that I would just go and my wife, Amy, would stay home with the kids. By the time I arrived at Pete’s, everyone had just about finished up with breakfast and soon we were outside in the rain distributing the toys to each member.
The rain was coming down in spurts for the entire run to drop off the toys. It somehow managed to stop raining just long enough for us to get all the toys out the MARINES & a quick photo op. After that some member went home to escape the weather, while the remaining others parked our trucks and walked around Christmas in the park. This year was very special because of the hard times a lot of people are having this year. It was a fun time for the members and it’s a fantastic way to give back, especially when it’s for the kids.

Hollister Hills Clean-up Day at the Upper Ranch The call came out from Hollister Hills Parks Dept to have a cleanup day for upper ranch and MTA responded in Full force. When we learned of this event MTA started posting this event on all the local forums and message boards in the area. Many people found out and the turnout was quite large. MTA had 10 Trucks there, NorCal FJ's had 22 trucks there, as well as various other people who all came out to help with the cleanup. The response was so overwhelming much to the delight of the Park Dept. HH SVRA is planning on having more events like this in the future so be on the lookout in the coming months. At the start of the event we all worked out a section of the park to handle. I ended up leading my group over to sycamore camp. The camp was mostly clean so we really had to go off the trail to find the trash. Several diapers and an entire coffee can of oil was found. We found a tire and rim hidden deep in the brush. There was a pump and piping found. Much was found and at the end of the event we had a large pile of trash that was picked up from the park. Thanks to all that helped out with this. It is up to all of us to keep upper ranch clean. I know that the park wants and needs the help. Anthony Bosso

MTA Safety inspection and BBQ Saturday Sept 12 2009 As everyone who is in a club or has been to an organized event has had the experience of trucks needing to be inspected. Over and above that MTA inspects all members vehicles at least twice a year. It’s a good way to let someone else eyes your rig and see if there is anything wrong, broken or simply missing. It is also a great excuse to have a get together, and BBQ. |
